Recognising outstanding contributions to school life

After discussions with a small number of parents in the last couple of weeks I felt that I should write something in my blog about 'tea and cakes with the Headteacher.'

Many of you will know that every week, one person from each child is chosen to come and have 'tea and cakes' with me.

I feel that it is important you know the criteria for choosing the lucky person from each class every week. The children are not chosen for outstanding work, but for the effort they make each week in making our school a positive place to be, The children are told that they are not chosen on a rota, so that they know that if they are chosen they may be picked again soon after. They are also told this so that they know they have to earn this priviledge, and that it actually means something.

Although it may not seem important to some, I consider this to be one of the most important parts of my week as it is one way I can keep a connection with the children and show them how much they are valued.

It gives me great pleasure to see how pleased the children are when they are picked to share this time with me, and the fact that their enthusiasm is just as strong now as when we started this system says a great deal about our children.

I hope that by reading this blog entry you may have gained a greater understanding as to the importance of 'tea and cakes' in the life of Wookey Primary School.
